Brand Guidelines Quick Reference
Kaleidoscope Books & Art Brand Identity
Goal: Create a fun and engaging brand identity for a new independent bookstore and gallery space.
BACKGROUND
A colleague and friend is opening a new independent bookstore and gallery space. They wanted a logo that would establish the recognizability of their brand at a glance, but also have enough flexibility to allow for dynamic and adaptable design in print, digital, and their physical space.
Kaleidoscope is playful but sophisticated. While there will be children’s books and programming, it’s a space primarily for adults. So it needs to feel friendly and appealing to adults both with and without children.
Action: Design brand components that allow for variability & playfulness in print, online, and in-person.
PROCESS
What makes a Kaleidoscope fun? There’s a confetti-like array of beads and baubles refracted at 30° angles into infinity. There are MANY colors, and there’s a dynamic play of light.
In particular, I wanted to find ways to convey playfulness and variability, with a set of components that come together in infinite permutations.
INSIGHTS
In addition to a full Brand Guidelines document, a Brand Guidelines Quick Reference was developed for use by staff creating flyers and social collateral.
